The Buildout is a website built on agentic AI tools, currently in beta, and could have factual errors.
Sensata's data center strategy is gaining traction with hyperscaler design wins and expanding SAM, positioning it as a key supplier for electrical protection, thermal management, and power conversion in AI infrastructure. The company's ability to leverage existing products and capacity without significant capital investment makes it an attractive play on the AI buildout, with revenue contributions expected to accelerate into 2027.
Sensata delivered strong Q2 results with revenue of $991M, up 5% reported and 4.4% organic, with all three segments growing organically. Adjusted operating margin expanded 50 bps to 19.5%, and adjusted EPS rose 12.6% to $0.98. Free cash flow was $186M, up 61% YoY, and the company retired $406M of debt, reducing net leverage to 2.4x. Automotive outgrew production by 2%, with strong performance in North America and Europe, while Aerospace, Defense & Commercial Equipment grew 10.9% organically, and Industrials grew 4.2% organically. Data center momentum continued with three new hyperscaler concept wins and a preferred vendor designation.
Management expressed confidence in continued momentum, with growth accelerating across all three segments and data center becoming a meaningful long-term growth platform. They reiterated expectations for modest organic growth in Automotive despite global production declines, and a second-half recovery in North American on-road trucks. For Q3, they guided revenue of $957M-$987M, adjusted operating margin of 19.4%-19.6%, and adjusted EPS of $0.93-$0.97, with roughly $10M in tariff costs. They expect Q4 margin expansion year-over-year and continued free cash flow conversion at or above 2025 levels. Data center SAM is expected to expand 1.5-2.5x per megawatt, with revenue contribution from on-site power generation and industrial data center components expected to accelerate into 2027.

on Balance sheet strength
Can you help us think through when these data center products get qualified and any parameters on materiality for '27 or '28?
Stephan said customer designs are still maturing and timelines evolving, so it's too early to provide a revenue or CAGR framework. He highlighted three drivers: market growth with 14% CAGR of deployed capacity through 2029, SAM expansion of 1.5-2.5x, and increasing participation. He noted 5 platform concept wins across 4 hyperscalers year-to-date and that industrial components revenue roughly doubled in the first half of 2026 vs 2025.
What led to the strength in margins in Q2, and do you still expect Q4 margin expansion of 30 bps?
Andrew attributed Q2 margin strength to stronger volume and a head start on productivity. He said Q3 guidance implies similar year-on-year margin expansion as previously communicated, and while Q4 wasn't guided, they still expect margin expansion year-on-year and sequentially from Q3.
With leverage ahead of schedule, are share repurchases back on the table?
Stephan said the company remains focused on improving operations and cash generation, with further opportunities in inventory and working capital. He reiterated that the direction is to continue deleveraging and strengthening the balance sheet, with no change in strategy regarding share repurchases.
