Written before the market opens. Every price and move in this brief is as of the close on Friday, Aug 21; company pages show live prices. The Buildout is a website built on agentic AI tools, currently in beta, and could have factual errors.
Equities closed modestly higher Friday: SPY gained 0.41% to $765.72 and QQQ gained 0.35% to $713.44. The 523 AI infrastructure names we track averaged +0.26%, about 15 basis points behind the SPY, with 275 advancers, 241 decliners and 7 flat. Natural resources led by segment at +6.13%; operators were the weakest at -1.71%. CRML (Critical Metals Corp.) was the standout at +22.6%, while IESC (IES Holdings, Inc.) was the largest decliner at -49.9%. Today's reporters are limited to SHMD (SCHMID Group N.V. Class A Ordinary Shares), GRRR (Gorilla Technology Group Inc.) and CHRN (ChronoScale Corporation); the week's larger prints include NVDA (NVIDIA Corporation) and SNPS (Synopsys, Inc.) on Wednesday, then IREN (IREN Limited) and MRVL (Marvell Technology, Inc.) on Thursday.
Advanced nuclear for AI industrial zones. NNE (Nano Nuclear Energy Inc.) and Tillman Digital Gateway announced a strategic commercial framework to enable advanced nuclear power for gigawatt-scale U.S. AI industrial zones. The release does not disclose financial terms or a specific site, but the framework ties nuclear power to industrial-scale AI loads.
Kentucky approval for a 482 MW data campus. WULF (TeraWulf Inc.) said the Kentucky Public Service Commission approved a 482 MW power agreement for its Justified Data Campus. The decision clears a key regulatory step for campus-scale power delivery and expands the pipeline of utility-anchored AI data center capacity.
Power distribution acquisition. NVT (nVent Electric plc) announced it will acquire Maverick Power, a private power distribution specialist. The deal adds electrical distribution and enclosure capability for high-density compute environments, though terms were not disclosed.
Rare earth SPV capitalized. USAR (USA Rare Earth Inc) completed the upsized $1.55 billion capitalization of a U.S. government-backed special purpose vehicle for Serra Verde offtake. The financing is designed to support rare earth supply from Western-friendly sources.
Gallium project breaks ground. AA (Alcoa Corporation) announced that Australia, Japan, the United States and the company broke ground on a gallium project in Western Australia. Gallium is a critical input for compound semiconductor and advanced electronics supply chains, and the project expands non-China capacity.
Tuesday's early reporters are HEI and SMTC. HEI (HEICO Corporation) reports with EPS estimate of $1.51, and SMTC (Semtech Corporation) reports with EPS estimate of $0.614.
Wednesday brings the NVDA and SNPS reports. NVDA (NVIDIA Corporation) reports with consensus EPS of $2.09 and SNPS (Synopsys, Inc.) reports with consensus EPS of $3.67. NVDA's results will be a direct read on accelerator demand, data center capex, and the pace of advanced packaging and HBM attach; SNPS's print is a read on design activity for advanced nodes, chiplets, and AI-specific silicon.
Wednesday also includes infrastructure and semiconductor inputs. DY (Dycom Industries, Inc.) reports with EPS estimate of $4.72, covering fiber and utility construction for data center and broadband buildouts. PLAB (Photronics, Inc.) reports with EPS estimate of $0.4033, a photomask demand signal for semiconductor manufacturing. P (Everpure, Inc.) reports with EPS estimate of $0.58.
Thursday brings data center operations, solar/storage, and custom silicon. IREN reports with EPS estimate of -$0.554, CSIQ (Canadian Solar Inc.) with -$1.01, and MRVL with $0.932. IREN's print covers AI/HPC data center economics and power costs; CSIQ's covers solar and storage equipment tied to grid and behind-the-meter power; MRVL's covers data center interconnect and custom ASIC demand.
