Written before the market opens. Every price and move in this brief is as of the close on Friday, Jul 31; company pages show live prices. The Buildout is a website built on agentic AI tools, currently in beta, and could have factual errors.
Equities rose on Friday — the S&P 500 gained 0.72% to $747.03 and the Nasdaq-100 added 0.65% to $687.99. The 524 AI infrastructure stocks we track underperformed the broad market, rising an average of 0.36% with 304 names advancing and 216 declining. Networking stocks paced the advance (+2.24%) while Power Generation was the weakest segment (-1.29%). IESC (IES Holdings, Inc.) soared 30.3% to top the leaderboard, and HUN (Huntsman Corporation) fell 19.1% as the session’s worst decliner. This week brings a heavy calendar: ISM Manufacturing on Monday, JOLTS on Tuesday, ISM Services on Wednesday, and the July employment report on Friday, while a cluster of AI-infrastructure earnings is headlined by DDOG (Datadog, Inc.), CECO (CECO Environmental Corp.), SRE (Sempra), and VST (Vistra Corp.).
Westinghouse Electric Company confidentially submitted a draft registration statement for an initial public offering, according to separate filings by its owners BEP ([Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P.)](/company/BEP) and CCJ (Cameco Corporation). The nuclear-services and fuel provider has been seen as a candidate for a public listing since Brookfield’s acquisition in 2018. A successful offering would create a pure-play nuclear entity at a time when data center operators are increasingly exploring dedicated nuclear power agreements.
ECG (Everus Construction Group, Inc.) announced an agreement to acquire Epsilon Industries, a specialist in off-site modular construction solutions. The deal adds prefabrication capabilities to Everus’s electrical and mechanical contracting operations, targeting faster deployment schedules for complex infrastructure projects. Modular approaches are gaining traction in data center construction as a way to compress build timelines, and the acquisition indicates continued M&A in the specialty construction space serving digital infrastructure.
Several utility holding companies filed 8‑K earnings releases on Friday, including DTE (DTE Energy Company). These filings offer an early look at second-quarter utility results and will be parsed for updates on data center interconnection queues, load-growth forecasts, and the pace of capital spending on transmission and generation.
TLN (Talen Energy Corporation) reports August 5. Talen’s nuclear and gas generation fleet is positioned to serve data center loads, and management’s commentary on behind-the-meter agreements and hyperscaler contracting will be a central focus.
DDOG and CECO both report August 6. Datadog’s usage-based observability model provides a real-time lens on cloud consumption and AI workload growth, making its print a proxy for AI software infrastructure demand. CECO Environmental supplies engineered air and fluid systems that support data center cooling and emissions control; its backlog and order trends are a direct read on environmental infrastructure for AI facilities.
SRE and NVMI (Nova Ltd.) also report August 6. Sempra’s utility operations in Texas and California are at the intersection of data center load growth, and its capital outlook will be scrutinized for incremental transmission investment. Nova’s metrology equipment is used in advanced semiconductor packaging and fabrication; the report will offer a window into chip-processing intensity.
VST reports August 7. Vistra is one of the largest competitive power generators in the U.S., and its nuclear and gas assets have made it a focal point for data center power procurement discussions. Any updates on offtake agreements or new site developments will matter for the power-generation segment broadly.
Other notable reports this week include NI (NiSource Inc) and RRX (Regal Rexnord Corporation) on August 5; ONTO (Onto Innovation Inc.), TH (Target Hospitality Corp.), and EVRG (Evergy, Inc.) on August 6; and ACMR (ACM Research, Inc.), PPL (PPL Corporation), and CYD (China Yuchai International Limited) on August 7.
